P.S.: I know that it is a solvent, and I know exactly what it does. It *can* be handled and taken safely. So if you are one of the people who don’t think others should use it for health reasons, your answer isn’t going to help.

Hydroxyapatite (HAp) is a material similar to the natural teeth. I have a project to determine which solvent besides of acids that can totally dissolve hydroxyapatite. I heard that DMSO can dissolve almost anything. Is it true? I really need help here. Many thanks.

I need to know how to safely mix it and in what quanity to get the strongest concentration i can use safely on my lower back. After reading the MSDS sheet i am kind of scared to open it. What are the limitations (molecular shapes, sizes and/or masses) for DMSO to ferry substances through the skin. Does anyone know the correct concentration for penetrating the skin (I have heard 70-90%). Any help would be much appreciated.

I am wondering why is DMSO normally used as solvent for drug in the study for drug effectiveness? Since DMSO is toxic to cells as well, wouldn’t it caused background noise over experimental result? e.g. cell death, antibiotic potency study, etc.. Thanks for anyone that answers
